BUILD ON A FIRM FOUNDATION--Dr. Larry Crabb* wrote "Finding God in this life does not mean building a house in a land of no storms; rather it means building a house that no storm can destroy."  Be determined to trust God's goodness when your path gets dark and difficult to understand. God is our firm foundation.  Search for His purpose in today's situations.  Give God time.

*Crabb, Larry (1993).  Moving through your problems toward finding God. Zondervan.

There is power in the name of Jesus.  There is strength and renewal in the name of Jesus.  There is deliverance and forgiveness in the name of Jesus.  There is peace and contentment in the name of Jesus.  His name is the name above all names.  Prov. 18:10.  Learn to run to the name of Jesus and find safety.

YOU CAN ONLY CHANGE YOURSELF! Too much energy is spent on trying to change others. Too often we harbor resentment and bitterness for things that we have no control over. This causes us to feel trapped, helpless and hopeless. Stop trying to convince others of their need to change. Instead, concentrate on how you can grow as a person through the experience. Choose to become “better” rather than “bitter” by growing through your negative experiences (Prov. 4:23).

Follows Rules/Laws- Eph 6:1-8

Humility--Accepts God's Will Luke 22:42

Faith in God--Does not fear the future

Faithful--Dependable & responsible

Productive--Purposeful mission

Forgives--Col 3:13-14

Serves others-- Willingly and joyously

I HATE TO DRIVE IN THE FOG!   Fog  forces me to slow down and concentrate on details  I must accept the limitations the fog creates. Much like the fog, when trouble comes, God wants me to slow down, focus on Him, and seek His purpose in the trial.  God wants me to trust Him and not to lean to my own understanding.  He will safely direct me through the fog. John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you that in me you might have peace.  In the world you  shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

                  Human Doing?

My sense of duty pressed me toward performance.  Being responsible and “doing” what was right was my major focus in life.  God convicted my heart with these words, “I want your sense of duty.”  I was shocked.  I had lived so many years as a “human doing” that I had never learned to be a “human being.”  God calls us to “be” a light in the darkness, not just “do” good.  We are to “be” loving, gentle, caring, etc. to our families and fellowman.  There is peace in “being.”

Often we seek comfort over God's purpose for our lives.  God may be using negative things in our lives to prepare us for His greater purposes. When we become willing to submit to His purposes, God will use our daily situations to prepare us to fulfill His plan for our lives.  Heb. 12:11 says "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it." (NIV)

Ephesians 5:19-20 ,,,Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The key to a grateful spirit is giving up our sense of entitlement--I deserve, I should have, They owe it to me, etc. and replacing it with a humble heart that understands Jesus' great sacrifice for us.  God's grace is sufficient for every day.

MY DESIRE IS TO PANT FOR GOD!

One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.  Ps.7:4  David had a special devotion to God,  He was a man that panted for God.  Psalms remains a favorite book for meditation because of David’s words of deep love and commitment toward God.  Much like David did in the shepherd’s fields, let’s find a place we can be alone with God and set aside the time to pant for Him. Like the deer pants for the water, I long to pant for the presence of God in my life.

Welcome to Devotional Christian Thoughts.  I wrote calendars for friends for Christmas gifts for several years.  I wanted to share  some of these devotional thoughts hoping they would prove useful to fellow Christians.  The thoughts are located below on this page and on three other pages.  You can access pages 2, 3, and 4 by clicking on the HOME button.  I pray the thoughts are useful in your Christian walk.

PERSEVERANCE-When I was a child I hated  bad tasting cough syrups.  As an adult, I understand the value of such medicines and why children need to endure the discomfort.  Circumstances  in life can get overwhelming. It often becomes difficult to understand why we are having to go through the hardships.  But, we know that in God's time, He makes things beautiful. Seek to understand God's purposes in your hardships. Choose to   persevere. James 1:12 says, "Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.  Wait upon the Lord; you're strength will be renewed when you wait.

You are a precious jewel being shaped by life

experiences.  Like Queen Esther, you are being

prepared to come before the King of Kings to

be chosen as His own.  Much preparation and training is required.  Some of this preparation is painful and uncomfortable.  But God knows the end from the beginning.  He can see beyond the difficulties and the trials.  God is working to help you reach your greatest potential.  Be patient.  Endure the hardships and you’ll win (James 1:12; 2 Tim 2:3).

Does it seem like you are going in circles?  You need an answer and there doesn’t seem to be a solution.  Scriptures tell us to cast our cares upon Christ.  There is no problem too great or too complex that God cannot bring a solution.  Sit at His feet and leave your burdens there.  Your answer begins with a decision to ask God for help, but it is completed by the power of the Almighty Creator who is touched by your pain and stress.  He cares.  Talk to Him. But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength…(Isaiah 40:31)

GAL 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.  Sow seeds of humility, forgiveness, gentleness, righteousness, peace, and love.  After many days, it will come back to you in multiple blessings.

Are you harvesting good seeds?  Do you need to replant your field?
